Case Studies

Real-world implementations demonstrating the practical application and measurable impact of the Styling Advice methodology across publishing and e-commerce.

Driving exceptional reader engagement and page views for one of the Netherlands’ largest women’s website and magazine

Libelle is the Netherlands’ largest women’s magazines, reaching a broad audience through both print and digital channels.

To expand its fashion offering, Styling Advice developed a series of evergreen articles based on its structured styling methodology. Instead of focusing on seasonal trends, the articles answered timeless styling questions such as choosing flattering jeans, balancing body proportions and selecting suitable necklines.

At the time, online advertising revenue depended heavily on page views. Generating website traffic and encouraging readers to return were therefore important editorial objectives.

The challenge was to create styling content that not only attracted readers but also continued driving traffic through multiple editorial channels, including the website, newsletters and the print magazine.

The results

Publisher analytics showed that multiple Styling Advice articles significantly outperformed the reported average performance of standard online fashion articles. The strongest-performing article achieved more than twenty times the average readership, while several others consistently exceeded normal editorial benchmarks.

A newsletter featuring Styling Advice content generated more than 17,000 clicks, indicating strong engagement beyond organic website traffic. Editorial correspondence also described the styling section as one of the strongest-performing fashion categories during the reporting period.

Building one of the best-performing fashion sections

Vrouwonline is one of the Netherlands’ leading online lifestyle platforms for women.

Styling Advice developed a dedicated styling section based on its structured methodology. Rather than focusing solely on seasonal fashion trends, the articles answered practical styling questions that remained relevant throughout the year while fitting naturally within the platform’s existing editorial style.

The objective was to determine whether knowledge-based styling content could attract readers and become a valuable part of the publisher’s fashion offering.

Publisher analytics showed that the Styling Advice section generated approximately 16% of all page views within the fashion category during the reporting period. Editorial correspondence described the section as “remarkably high-performing” and identified it as the best-performing fashion category, noting that it continued to perform strongly despite a temporary decline in overall website traffic.

Although fewer benchmark comparisons were available than in the Libelle implementation, the combination of publisher analytics and independent editorial feedback provides credible evidence that the methodology successfully engaged readers within a second publishing environment.

International retail implementations

Between 2009 and 2014, Styling Advice was implemented by several international fashion retailers across Europe and Asia, including Bonprix, Neckermann, Ulla Popken, Ulla Popken, PayEasy and M18.

The platform enabled customers to create a personalised body profile, receive detailed styling advice and discover clothing selected specifically for their individual body characteristics. The same body profile also powered personalised newsletters and editorial content, allowing retailers to deliver highly relevant fashion advice alongside carefully selected products.

Newsletter open rates: between 42% to 83%

Newsletter click through rates: between 12% and 83% depending on the retailer and the newsletter format

The original commercial objective was to improve conversion and reduce product returns. Although these metrics were extensively analysed, differences between retailer reporting systems, tracking methodologies and attribution models prevented consistent validation across all implementations.

These projects nevertheless demonstrated something equally valuable: customers were willing to share detailed body information in exchange for genuinely personalised fashion advice and consistently engaged with personalised recommendations and educational content. Across all implementations, more than 1.24 million personal body profiles were created, providing retailers with a unique body intelligence dataset for personalisation.

Ready to build the next case study?

The case studies on this page demonstrate what was achieved through collaborations with international publishers and fashion retailers. I’m now looking for one or two organisations interested in becoming part of the next chapter.

Rather than working with a large consultancy team, you’ll work directly with me—the creator of the Styling Advice methodology. From the initial concept and implementation to analysing the results, I will personally guide the entire pilot. This allows us to move quickly, adapt where needed and work closely together throughout the project.

The pilot is offered free of charge. In return, I’m looking for the opportunity to validate the methodology using today’s technology and measurement standards, while creating a new, independently documented case study.

If you’re interested in exploring whether your organisation could be a suitable pilot partner, I’d love to start a conversation.
